The Africa Forum 2018 - Toronto

Last week, our founder Aaron Schroeder, had the pleasure and honour of speaking on a panel at The Africa Forum in Toronto.

“Enabling transformative climate action in cities: How can we ensure the adoption of environmentally sustainable innovations in cities across the Commonwealth?”

He was joined by:

Jay Nordenstrom (Executive Director, NAIMA Canada)

Mr. Vasilios Philippou (High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus to Canada)

Honourable Jeannie Hakongak Ehaloak (Minister of Justice and Environment NUNAVAT

Elisabeth (Lisa) DeMarco (Co- Founder DeMarco Allan LLP)

Christopher Bryant (Adjunct Professor, University of Montreal)

One of the key ideas Aaron speaks about is a fundamental factor of sustainability. What do you think about when you hear the word sustainability? Do you think only of the environment? Sustainability has to be, well, sustainable. Which means that it can be maintained at a specific rate or level. This means that it needs to meet the needs and constraints of all stakeholders involved in any changes. In addition to environmental concerns, there are financial constraints, time constraints, material constraints, and emotional constraints. Without addressing all of these in a way that meets the needs of every stakeholder there is no way to create lasting change.
